Simpkins Edwards brings local businesses together for quiz night in aid of Inclusive Exeter

We are delighted to report that our flagship Exeter charity event, the Really Big Quiz, has raised £4000 for Inclusive Exeter, bringing together thirty-nine teams from businesses throughout the city.

The Really Big Quiz was back with a bang in May after a two-year break due to Covid restrictions. Teams were invited to test their skills across a smorgasbord of subjects, with rounds covering everything from sports to science and geography to general knowledge – with the odd curveball such as ‘Secret Life of Pets’ thrown in to keep everybody on their toes!

This was all in support of a very worthy cause, with the quiz raising money for the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity for 2021-2022, Inclusive Exeter.

This community-led organisation recognises and celebrates diversity in Exeter and Devon, running the Exwick Community Centre as well as a range of projects for the benefit of Black, Asian, and

Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities. These various initiatives aim to improve health and wellbeing, build cross-cultural understanding, and strengthen community relationships.

Kate Hannan, Chair and Director at Inclusive Exeter was there on the night along with the Lord Mayor to accept the cheque on behalf of the charity.

As well as the quiz itself, fundraising was boosted by an exciting auction, and a ‘heads and tails’ games, led as usual by the highly entertaining James Morrish now of Mole Valley Farmers.

John Coombs and James Welton, Simpkins Edwards partners, took on the role as masters of ceremonies and quizmasters for the evening.

John said: “It was wonderful to return to the Corn Exchange this year for our Really Big Quiz in Exeter. This is one of our favourite events, as it always has such a fantastic atmosphere and brings together teams from a whole host of local businesses in support of important causes. I think we can all agree that Covid has taught us just how vital our local communities are and it’s great to be able to support the work Inclusive Exeter does for the diverse communities of our city.”

James added: “Our Really Big Quiz is no small undertaking, and we are grateful to everybody who helped to make the event a success – from the teams taking part through to all those working hard behind the scenes. Our IT and marketing teams were supported by colleagues from across the firm, as well as volunteers from Inclusive Exeter and the Sea Cadets. It is definitely a ‘Really Big’ team effort! Huge thanks also to our generous donors, who outdid themselves with prizes for our auction and raffle this year.”

Now in its 18th year, the Really Big Quiz has raised nearly £88,485.65 for various charities and good causes across Exeter and Devon.

A ‘Really Big’ thank you to all those who donated prizes for our charity quiz evening!
