Simpkins Edwards is celebrating news that it has been named Medium Employer of the Year Award at the annual Exeter College Apprentice and Employer Awards 2020.
Scheduled to take place in March 2020 but postponed due to Covid-19, the awards were held virtually on 24th September. Simpkins Edwards formally received their certificate from Exeter College on 4th November.
Shortlisted alongside Millwater School, Bridge Civil Engineering, and Combe Pafford School, Simpkins Edwards’ was chosen as the award winner due to its ongoing commitment to investing in its apprentices.
2020 marks 50 years of apprenticeships at Exeter College and Simpkins Edwards has been working collaboratively with Exeter College for more than 20 of these. Currently, 8 of our staff are undertaking an apprenticeship with Exeter College.
Mary Jane Campbell, Managing Partner at Simpkins Edwards, commented: “We are delighted to receive the Medium Employer of the Year Award from Exeter College.
“We value the apprenticeship route, as it provides our people with the opportunity to further education whilst earning a salary and gaining workplace experience not offered by most degree courses.
“We appreciate the time and effort dedicated by the College to ensure that the programmes on offer are suitable, worthwhile and meet the needs of the awarding bodies and our ever-changing industry.”
Simpkins Edwards invests substantial time in its apprentices as they make their first step onto the career ladder. All apprentices have two dedicated mentors, and support is provided by Partners and senior staff, alongside current and former apprentices that have qualified.
Simpkins Edwards provides apprentices with exposure and insight into the working world in a supported environment. All study costs, day-release, additional days required at college and study leave are fully paid, and apprentices receive the our benefits package.
Mary Jane added: “As our business needs grow, we have extended the range of apprenticeships we offer. Each year, we aim to employ a minimum of two apprentices; either school or college leavers. This year we have surpassed that goal welcoming eight apprentices in the last six months, including our first IT apprentice. For us, supporting apprentices is key, as today’s apprentice is tomorrow’s partner.”
Simpkins Edwards is proud to continue the recruitment and development of apprentices in whichever field they choose in the firm.
