Barnstaple’s 7th annual Really Big Quiz hosted by local accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards has raised a record-breaking £3,360 for the Mayor’s charities.
Bringing together hundreds of burgeoning eggheads from the town, the event was as entertaining as ever, with a series of tough quiz rounds as well as an auction, raffle, and lighthearted game of heads or tails, compered by James Morrish of Kivells.
Beating last year’s fundraising total by nearly £1,000, the £3,360 will be split between Barnstaple Dementia Action Alliance, ChemoHero, Honey’s Bravery Bags and the specialist nurse in home project from North Devon Hospice. Added to the previous six years, it brings the total raised by the Really Big Quiz to more than £20,200, all of which has gone directly to support the Mayor’s chosen charities each year.
The victorious team on the night came from Sounds Sorted Productions, which walked away with a trophy and bottle of champagne as well as the title of Barnstaple’s brainiest business.
“We knew it was going to be our best ever total when we had already beaten last year after counting up the entry fees and raffle ticket sales, with the auction still to come!” said Jilly Watson, partner at Simpkins Edwards’ Barnstaple office. “We had some incredibly generous auction items donated from local businesses such as Face Edge and Oak Furnitureland and they, along with everyone who took part and helped organise the event, can take great pride in the fact they’ve made a real difference to several local charities. Let’s see if we can do even better next year!”

My thanks also go to the representatives from my Charities for selling the raffle tickets on the night.”
